Jakarta, IO – A Commuterline (KRL) train passes through the now-defunct Mampang Station in Jakarta (Apr. 17). Amid the bustle of urban life and Jakarta’s heavy traffic, a trace of the past lingers, nearly forgotten.

On the banks of the Ciliwung River, the old Mampang Station building still stands in silence, holding a long history of the city’s rail transport. Though no longer intact, remnants of its short platform and several old ornaments are still visible, as if bearing quiet witness to its former prominence. It is located between Manggarai Station and Sudirman Station, both now major transportation hubs with high mobility.

Opened in 1922 and ceasing operations in 2007, Mampang Station was shut down due to low passenger numbers and its proximity to nearby stations. Today, the structure stands abandoned, gradually worn down by time amid the city’s rapid development. (IO/Faisal Ramadhan)
