Utilities firm eyes growth after six-figure investment

A gas, water and electricity connections firm says it is plugged in for growth after securing six-figure investment.

BGS Utilities has been backed by NPIF II – FW Capital Debt Finance.

Bosses at the Warrington-based company say the cash will help win new contracts and “provide a solid platform to meet growth targets”.

Employing about 40 staff, BGS Utilities works across the industrial, commercial and housebuilding sectors.

Its client book includes Manchester city centre regeneration projects for Renaker; developments for Wain Homes, Ecclestone Homes, Bellway and Vistry; and the Animate Studios, in Preston.

Jonathan Hopkins, managing director, said: “The utility infrastructure market is incredibly competitive, but we’re focused on finding innovative ways of working that deliver better engineered solutions for clients.

“The backing from FW Capital has been key to our growth plans and we’re proud to be able to secure funding through NPIF II knowing our sector isn’t typically favoured for this support.”

Caroline Turley, investment executive at FW Capital, which manages NPIF II – FW Capital Debt Finance as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II, added: “BGS Utilities is innovative in the work it delivers for its clients and has created a well-established, expanding business.

“Its vision for future growth and commitment to offering groundbreaking utility infrastructure services has impressed us.”

The £660 million Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II covers the North of England and provides loans from £25,000 to £2 million and equity investment up to £5 million to small and medium-sized businesses.
