Hotel Review: Hopewell Hotel, Hong Kong

Hopewell has long been associated with the Hopewell Centre in Wan Chai district on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island. A tall cylinder of a skyscraper, it has the city’s only revolving restaurant, The Grand Buffet, at the top. The name took on new meaning in 2024 after the next-door Hopewell Centre II was completed; within it, occupying more than 40 storeys, is the Hopewell Hotel.

Wan Chai is a fascinating part of the city – once a red-light district, it’s now somewhat gentrified, but retains the feel of genuine, gritty, hard-working Hong Kong. There’s still a strip of bars and restaurants closer to the waterfront, but these days they are more family-friendly. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is a ten-minute walk away, and a two-stop metro ride from Central, the main business district.
