The total steel imports for the first 5 months of the current year, including rolled steel and semi-finished products, amounted to 9.12 million tons (-26.3% year-on-year).
In May, the total steel imports to the US reached 2.1 million tons, which is 11.2% higher than the previous month, including 1.55 million tons of rolled metal (+11.2% m/m).
The largest steel suppliers to the United States during this period were South Korea (399 thousand short tons, +37% m/m), Brazil (331 thousand tons, +54% m/m), Canada (281 thousand tons, +5% compared to April), Mexico (185 thousand tons, 1% less m/m), and Japan (142 thousand tons, +91% compared to April).
The market share of imported rolled steel in May is estimated at 17%, and for the first 5 months of 2026, it stands at 16%.
