The Hong Kong Productivity Council will keep facilitating Chinese mainland enterprises that are expanding into overseas markets while assisting through various initiatives those Hong Kong firms venturing into the mainland market.

HKPC Chairman Sunny Tan made the remarks on Monday at a media gathering reviewing the council’s 2025-26 annual performance.

Tan said that given the current unpredictability in the international market, Hong Kong’s knowledge of different types of products, standards, and tariffs are highly required in various global markets.

To facilitate both Hong Kong and Chinese mainland enterprises in exploring overseas markets, the HKPC established The Cradle — Go Global Service Centre in April 2025 to offer one-stop professional support for local and mainland tech-innovation firms.

To date, the center has received over 500 consultations and successfully provided comprehensive go-global services, including preevaluation and smart manufacturing assistance to more than 300 projects, according to reports heard at Monday’s event.

Tan also shared a successful case — a mainland autonomous-driving system enterprise that received assistance from the HKPC. Through the HKPC’s constant technical support, the company successfully utilized Hong Kong’s testing and certification scenarios to align with international requirements, eventually expanding its business footprint overseas.

“This success case has given us immense confidence,” Tan said. “If we can empower this enterprise, it demonstrates that many more companies from the mainland are well-suited to going global with the support of Hong Kong.”

Meanwhile, the HKPC has been continuously deepening its strategic cooperation within the mainland. The HKPC have visited 22 mainland cities, including regions beyond the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area such as Hebei province, Shanghai, and Beijing, and organized 49 communication activities to aid Hong Kong entrepreneurs’ expansion in the mainland markets.

A prime example is the Dongguan-Hong Kong Tech100+ empowerment program, jointly launched by HKPC and the Dongguan authorities in February 2025, which pioneered a collaborative model combing Hong Kong’s research and development prowess with Dongguan’s technology commercialization capacity.

As of last month, this program had completed on-site assessments for 27 enterprises and successfully initiated 10 research and development projects, effectively securing practical application scenarios for Hong Kong’s research and development achievements, HKPC officials said.
