TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Trade Ministry on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, flagged continued progress in industrial downstreaming after dispatching a shipment of fabricated structural steel worth US$216,000 to Canada.

The products were manufactured by PT Trimitra Fabrikasi Engineering (TFE) for export during the June 2026 shipment period.

Trade Ministry Director General for National Export Development Fajarini Puntodewi said the shipment demonstrates Indonesia’s ability to produce sophisticated, globally competitive manufacturing products.

“The Trade Ministry strongly supports efforts to increase exports of high-value-added manufactured products,” Puntodewi said in a statement issued in Jakarta.

“We hope this shipment encourages more companies to expand exports of value-added products,” she said.

Puntodewi said structural steel fabrication marks a shift from exporting raw metals toward higher-value manufacturing through advanced engineering and precision fabrication.

She said the development supports Indonesia’s downstreaming strategy, which aims to increase domestic value creation, employment and the manufacturing sector’s contribution to exports.

The shipment comes as Indonesia’s trade performance continues to strengthen. Non-oil and gas exports reached US$87.74 billion in January-April 2026, up 6.28 percent from US$82.56 billion a year earlier.

Iron and steel remained a key export contributor, generating US$9.61 billion during the first four months of 2026.

In 2025, Indonesia’s iron and steel exports totaled US$29.76 billion, reflecting an average annual growth trend of 5.61 percent between 2021 and 2025.

“Exports of structural steel fabrication products reached US$39.68 million in January-April 2026,” Puntodewi said.

She added that the segment has posted a 6.08 percent growth trend over the past five years.

The ministry said the growth highlights strong global demand for Indonesian steel fabrication products, with PT TFE expanding into higher-value markets including Canada.
