DHL plans healthcare logistics hub at Infinity Park Derby

DHL Supply Chain has announced plans to launch a new automated healthcare logistics hub at Infinity Park Derby.

The 194,000ft² multi-user, multi-temperature facility will support organisations operating across consumer health, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and animal health. Construction is underway with practical completion expected by the end of 2026.

The unit is targeting BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and EPC ‘A’ ratings, with sustainability measures including on-site solar generation, EV charging infrastructure and energy-efficient automation.

DHL said the high-density warehouse design will enable up to 40% more pallets to be stored within the same footprint as a conventional facility while reducing energy consumption through automated ‘dark store’ operations.

It will incorporate pallet shuttle systems with future capability for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), according to the 3PL.

Martin Willmor, CEO, DHL Supply Chain UK & Ireland, said: “The UK health landscape is experiencing sustained, above-trend growth across pharma, medical devices and consumer health, driven by demand for advanced therapies and personalised medicine. Developing the new Infinity Park site ensures we can meet this accelerating demand with the specialist infrastructure needed to support growth.”

The new logistics hub at Infinity Park Derby forms part of DHL’s £550 million investment programme to accelerate automation across its UK operations, and a wider €2bn investment in life sciences and healthcare by 2030.

Peter Kyle, secretary of state for business and trade, described the investment as “a strong vote of confidence in the UK as a leading destination for life sciences and advanced logistics.”
