Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) shares climbed nearly 2.7% in intraday trade on Thursday, June 11, after the company announced plans for a sizeable capital raise. The board approved a proposal to mobilise at least Rs 2,300 crore to finance strategic priorities and business growth initiatives.
The decision was approved during the company’s board meeting held on June 10, 2026, Zee said in a regulatory filing submitted to the stock exchanges.
Following the announcement, Zee‘s stock rose as much as 2.73% to touch an intraday high of Rs 105.63 apiece on the BSE around 10:40 AM (IST).
The broadcaster said the fundraising exercise could be executed in multiple phases or tranches. However, the board has yet to determine the mechanism through which the funds will be raised and intends to continue evaluating the options available.
As per the filing, the company will undertake further deliberations before finalising the structure and implementation of the proposed capital infusion.
“We would like to inform you that the Board of Directors of the Company, at its meeting held today i.e. June 10, 2026, has approved the raising of capital by the Company of minimum Rs. 2,300 Crores (Two Thousand Three Hundred Crores) in one or more phases/tranches to fund the strategic and business initiatives. Further, the Board decided to deliberate further on options for raising funds,” Zee Entertainment mentioned in an exchange filing.
The company did not specify the route it intends to adopt for the proposed fundraising exercise.
The announcement has come days after the company disclosed that it signed a long-term partnership with FIFA to broadcast 39 major international football events in India between 2026 and 2034, including the FIFA World Cup 2026, FIFA World Cup 2030 and FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027.
Under the deal, Zee will broadcast a wide range of FIFA competitions, including men’s and women’s youth World Cups, FIFA Futsal World Cups and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, alongside the flagship men’s and women’s World Cup tournaments. The FIFA World Cup 2026 is scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026.
The media company has also announced the launch of four dedicated sports channels — Unite8 Sports 1, Unite8 Sports 1 HD, Unite8 Sports 2 and Unite8 Sports 2 HD. Matches will also be streamed on Zee5, with multilingual coverage aimed at expanding football’s reach across India.
