PETALING JAYA: Flash floods hit several parts of the Klang Valley following heavy rain at around 4pm on Saturday (July 18) that disrupted traffic.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received one emergency call involving flash floods.

“As of 5pm, we received an emergency call involving flash floods in Petaling Jaya. Our personnel are responding to the incident,” he said when contacted on Saturday.

He said a fire engine from the Petaling Jaya fire station was dispatched to the scene.

Ashrul Riezal added that personnel from the Damansara and Taman Tun Dr Ismail stations were been deployed.

“Our teams from the Damansara and TTDI Fire and Rescue Stations are on the ground. A full report is not yet available,” he said.

He added that they had received four reports of fallen trees at several locations in Selangor, although no injuries were reported.

“We remain on alert and are prepared to respond to any incidents,” he said.

Meanwhile, videos and photographs shared on social media showed several areas inundated by floodwaters, including Section 19 and Medan Selera 223 in Petaling Jaya, as well as the Jalan Abu Bakar flyover heading towards the Sprint Expressway and Kuala Lumpur.

Ashrul Riezal said Firefighters from the Petaling Jaya fire station arrived at Medan Selera 223 at 4.55pm and found floodwaters of about 2m deep.

He said the water level was already going down when firefighters arrived, adding that no casualties were reported and no evacuation was required.

In Kuala Lumpur, social media users also reported flash floods in Ampang and near Sungei Wang, with water accumulating on several roads.

Threads user @wanny_mushi said that several vehicles in Petaling Jaya were almost submerged after water levels rose rapidly.

In a video @wanny_mushi shared, floodwaters can be seen rising quickly, inundating a parking area and putting several vehicles at risk of damage.

There is currently no reports of casualties or evacuations due to the flash floods.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution, avoid flooded roads and follow instructions issued by authorities.
