PETALING JAYA:

Eight vehicles were trapped in flash floods following a downpour in several parts of the Klang Valley this afternoon.

The Kuala Lumpur fire and rescue department said its operations control centre received emergency calls from three separate locations – Jalan Awan Kecil in Taman OUG, Jalan Kuchai Lama heading towards Jalan Klang Lama, and inside the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway tunnel.

Firefighters from the Sri Petaling station arrived at Jalan Awan Kecil, where five cars were trapped, at 4.30pm after receiving a call about eight minutes earlier.

Two more cars were caught in floodwaters on Jalan Kuchai Lama at about 4pm, with personnel from the Seputeh fire station arriving some five minutes later.

One car left stranded inside the tunnel heading towards Sri Petaling at 4.40pm was “rescued” by firefighters from the Bukit Jalil station who arrived at 4.50pm.

The department said no casualties or injuries were reported.

Earlier today, the meteorological department had warned of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across nine states and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan until 5pm.
