A 23-year-old British TikTok influencer from Kent is facing the death penalty in Dubai after being charged with the murder of her boyfriend.
A British TikTok influencer from Kent faces the death penalty in Dubai for the alleged murder of her boyfriend, a case prompting international concern about domestic violence and women’s rights abroad.
According to BBC News, Brooke George, from Kent in the United Kingdom, claims she acted in self-defence after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend during a violent altercation in Dubai.
Campaign group Detained in Dubai, which is supporting George’s case, alleges that the young influencer had been subjected to escalating abuse during the couple’s second trip to the United Arab Emirates.
The organisation claims her partner had become increasingly controlling and abusive, allegedly withholding her passport and preventing her from leaving the country.
The group says the fatal incident occurred after George was violently attacked while attempting to return home to the UK.
They are urging authorities to release her on bail and investigate the case through the lens of domestic violence rather than treating it as a straightforward murder prosecution.
George’s mother has also spoken out, saying her daughter appeared deeply distressed before the incident.
In a statement, she said the day before the tragedy, Brooke “was not herself” and believes her daughter was desperately trying to get home and escape whatever she had experienced.
Detained in Dubai has further claimed that those close to George believe she may have been lured to Dubai under false pretences for the purpose of exploitation, though these allegations have not been confirmed by authorities.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to the severe penalties available under UAE law.
While murder can carry the death penalty, legal experts note that any sentence would depend on the specific circumstances of the case and the outcome of the judicial process.
BBC journalist Lucy Woodham confirmed that it is providing consular assistance.
“The UK government is supporting a British woman detained in the UAE and is in contact with the local authorities and her family,” Woodham said.
