Examining Cashflow Against Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine’s Earnings

Many investors haven’t heard of the accrual ratio from cashflow, but it is actually a useful measure of how well a company’s profit is backed up by free cash flow (FCF) during a given period. In plain english, this ratio subtracts FCF from net profit, and divides that number by the company’s average operating assets over that period. This ratio tells us how much of a company’s profit is not backed by free cashflow.

That means a negative accrual ratio is a good thing, because it shows that the company is bringing in more free cash flow than its profit would suggest. That is not intended to imply we should worry about a positive accrual ratio, but it’s worth noting where the accrual ratio is rather high. That’s because some academic studies have suggested that high accruals ratios tend to lead to lower profit or less profit growth.

Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine has an accrual ratio of -0.17 for the year to December 2025. Therefore, its statutory earnings were very significantly less than its free cashflow. Indeed, in the last twelve months it reported free cash flow of HK$788m, well over the HK$397.2m it reported in profit. Notably, Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine had negative free cash flow last year, so the HK$788m it produced this year was a welcome improvement.

That might leave you wondering what analysts are forecasting in terms of future profitability. Luckily, you can click here to see an interactive graph depicting future profitability, based on their estimates.

Our Take On Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine’s Profit Performance

Happily for shareholders, Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine produced plenty of free cash flow to back up its statutory profit numbers. Because of this, we think Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine’s underlying earnings potential is as good as, or possibly even better, than the statutory profit makes it seem! Unfortunately, though, its earnings per share actually fell back over the last year. Of course, we’ve only just scratched the surface when it comes to analysing its earnings; one could also consider margins, forecast growth, and return on investment, among other factors. While it’s really important to consider how well a company’s statutory earnings represent its true earnings power, it’s also worth taking a look at what analysts are forecasting for the future. So feel free to check out our free graph representing analyst forecasts.

This note has only looked at a single factor that sheds light on the nature of Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine’s profit. But there are plenty of other ways to inform your opinion of a company.
