Prabowo Claims Indonesian Judges’ Salaries Higher Than Malaysia’s

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto claims that the salary of judges in Indonesia is higher compared to other countries in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. According to him, the government has raised judges’ salaries by up to 300 percent since last year.

“Our most junior judges now have salaries twice that of Malaysian judges,” said Prabowo during the inauguration of the Ibu Marsinah Museum and Shelter House in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, as quoted from the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat.

Prabowo said that the government increased judges’ salaries to maintain the dignity of the judicial institution and to encourage the creation of a clean legal apparatus. He believes that Indonesia must have clean and honest judges because the court is the last place where people seek justice.

However, Prabowo emphasized that the reform of the judicial institution must continue. According to him, improving the judicial system is not enough by just increasing the welfare of judges.

The General Chairman of the Gerindra Party also called for other law enforcement agencies, such as the police, public prosecutor’s office, and the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), to improve and correct their respective institutions. He urged the apparatus to eliminate the practice of abuse of authority and corruption.

Prabowo emphasized that the apparatus should not become protectors or backers of various criminal acts, including gambling, smuggling of illegal goods, and the abuse of narcotics, psychotropics, and other addictive substances or drugs. “Don’t let the apparatus be behind the abuse, the apparatus backing the abuse, the apparatus backing smuggling, backing drugs, backing gambling, backing illegal activities here, illegal there, illegal everywhere. It shouldn’t be like that,” he said.
