JAKARTA – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim again expressed his condemnation of Israel’s actions in detaining more than 100 humanitarian activists of the Gaza Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0.

“The actions taken against the humanitarian aid mission not only violate human rights and international law, but also show the arrogance of the Zionist regime in closing access to aid, silencing humanitarian voices, and oppressing anyone who stands up to defend and defend the Palestinian people,” Anwar Ibrahim said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur, Monday, May 18.

Anwar stated that out of the hundreds of activists who were detained, there were 16 activists from Malaysia who were also imprisoned.

Malaysia strongly condemned the action and demanded guarantees of safety and the immediate release of all activists.

Anwar emphasized that the world should not continue to submit to injustice. According to him, the oppression of the Palestinian people and those who mobilize and bring humanitarian aid must be stopped immediately.

“Israel must be held accountable for its actions,” Anwar Ibrahim said.

This is not the first time Anwar Ibrahim has made a strong statement on Israel’s actions against humanitarian ship activists. In the previous detention incident, Anwar also directly spoke out against Israel’s military actions against activists.

Anwar Ibrahim also did not hesitate to engage in dialogue with the leaders of friendly countries in an effort to free the activists.

For information, Israel again detained activists of a humanitarian aid flotilla to the Gaza Strip. In the group detained there were also activists of Indonesian citizens, including at least two journalists from national media.

The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia continues to strive to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens (WNI) participants in the Global Sumud Flotilla to the Gaza Strip who were affected by the interception by the Israeli Zionist forces.
