Malaysia welcomes Embraer’s interest to explore opportunities, including potential assembly

KUALA LUMPUR (May 5): Malaysia welcomes Brazilian aerospace company Embraer’s interest in exploring opportunities in the country, including the potential establishment of assembly operations, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said.

He said the company will also participate in the Malaysia Aerospace Summit 2026, scheduled for June 25–27 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps).

Embraer is the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer after Boeing and Airbus.

Johari said this was conveyed during a courtesy call by Brazilian ambassador to Malaysia Daniella Ortega de Paiva Menezes.

“The meeting reflects the continued commitment of both countries to strengthening economic ties, particularly in expanding engagement with strategic partners in the Latin American region.

“We discussed efforts to expedite the convening of the second Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting, progress on the Investment Cooperation and Facilitation Agreement (ICFA), as well as the implementation of the semiconductor memorandum of understanding (MOU), which will open up high-value collaboration opportunities across global industrial supply chains,” he said in a Facebook post.

The MOU, exchanged in late October last year, was in the presence of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who was visiting Malaysia in conjunction with the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits as a guest of the Asean chair.

In 2024, Brazil was Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner in Latin America, with total bilateral trade amounting to RM20.36 billion (US$4.46 billion).

Malaysia’s exports included electrical and electronic products, palm oil, rubber and halal pharmaceuticals, while imports comprised ores, processed food and petroleum products.
