Rescuers locate two missing Singaporeans after Mount Dukono eruption, one Indonesian dead

JAKARTA, 9 maggio (Reuters) – Le autorità indonesiane sabato hanno localizzato la posizione di due singaporiani dispersi, anche se non si sapeva se fossero vivi, e hanno confermato la morte di un’escursionista indonesiana dopo l’eruzione del monte Dukono sull’isola di Halmahera, nel Pacifico.

“Abbiamo identificato le coordinate della loro posizione. È intorno al bordo del cratere”, ha dichiarato a Reuters Iwan Ramdani, capo dell’agenzia di soccorso indonesiana. “Entrambi sembravano trovarsi a 20-30 metri dal bordo del cratere principale”, ha dichiarato Abdul Muhari, portavoce dell’Agenzia per la mitigazione dei disastri.

Iwan ha aggiunto che il corpo della donna indonesiana è stato recuperato e consegnato alla famiglia.

Situato nella provincia di North Maluku, il vulcano ha iniziato a eruttare venerdì, sputando cenere fino a 10 km di altezza.

Sabato sera, i soccorritori hanno temporaneamente interrotto le ricerche a causa delle continue eruzioni. Le operazioni riprenderanno domenica, ha dichiarato Iwan. Almeno 100 soccorritori, personale militare e di polizia, oltre a due droni termici, sono stati dispiegati all’inizio di sabato.

Le evacuazioni sono state ostacolate dal terreno estremo e dalle continue eruzioni.

Le autorità hanno evacuato venerdì 17 persone – sette singaporiani e 10 indonesiani. Gli escursionisti hanno detto alla polizia che i tre dispersi, tra cui i singaporiani, erano morti, ha dichiarato il capo della polizia Erlichson Pasaribu.

Pasaribu ha detto che sta indagando su una compagnia di escursioni che ha fornito servizi agli escursionisti, per possibili negligenze che hanno messo in pericolo la vita di altri.

Hanno interrogato sei persone ma non le hanno arrestate. La polizia indagherà ulteriormente sul motivo per cui la compagnia turistica ha portato i turisti a scalare il monte Dukono nonostante l’arrampicata fosse stata vietata.

Pasaribu ha detto che le escursioni alla cima del Dukono sono state vietate dal 2024 a causa delle eruzioni, e il governo locale ha vietato tutte le attività di arrampicata nell’aprile di quest’anno a seguito dell’aumento delle eruzioni.

L’agenzia vulcanologica mantiene il terzo livello di allerta più alto per il Monte Dukono e vieta qualsiasi attività nel raggio di 4 km (2,5 miglia) dal cratere.

Non sono stati segnalati disservizi aerei causati dall’eruzione.
