Jakarta (ANTARA) –

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said that the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has the potential to increase Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contribution by up to 3.67 percent.

“Competitiveness today is no longer determined by resources, but by the ability to adapt to technology, especially AI,” she said at “The Power of AI” forum, as quoted from a ministry press release on Sunday.

She stated that Indonesia can maximize the use of AI to support digital economic growth.

“Value has now shifted, it is no longer about resources, but about our ability to transform data into solutions,” she explained.

World Bank data shows that Indonesia ranks 41st out of 198 countries and is included in category A in public digital transformation, reflecting strong capacity in developing digital services.

“Indonesia continues to strengthen its position as a major digital economic power in Southeast Asia,” she said.

The minister emphasized the need to accelerate AI adoption in strategic sectors. Currently, the financial and retail sectors are considered more advanced in implementing the technology.

“Health, agriculture, and manufacturing must be accelerated because that is where we can create the greatest impact,” she said.

Hafid also highlighted the importance of strong and adaptive AI governance amid rapid technological developments.

“AI regulation is no longer an option, it is an urgent and inevitable necessity,” she added.

The minister mentioned that the government has finalized a presidential regulation on the national AI roadmap and ethics, which is currently awaiting ratification.

“This roadmap provides clear direction while ensuring public protection from various AI risks,” she said.

The government will keeping pushing for inclusive AI adoption across sectors, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to ensure the benefits of digital transformation are shared widely across Indonesia.
