New Delhi: India and Austria on Thursday concluded 15 arrangements covering defence, tech, innovation and trade and decided to set up a Joint Working Group on countering cross-border terrorism. The outcomes were announced following the Summit between Modi and Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker in New Delhi.

The Letter of Intent (LoI) on defence will provide an institutional framework for promoting cooperation in military matters, defence industrial and technology partnership, building on the momentum of the India-EU Defence and Security Partnership signed on 27 January 2026, as well as facilitate defence policy dialogue, training and capacity building.

The LoI on counter-terror will advance counter terrorism cooperation between India and Austria including the goal of both sides to work together to establish a Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism for exploring areas of strategic cooperation on issues relating to the fight against terrorism.

In his remarks after the Summit, Modi called for the peaceful resolution of the conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine.

“Today, the entire world is passing through a very serious and tense situation,” Modi said, adding that the impact of the tense situation in the world is being felt by all of us.

The prime minister said India and Austria were in agreement that military conflict cannot resolve problems. “We support stable, sustainable, and lasting peace in Ukraine and West Asia.”
Modi said the Austrian Chancellor’s visit to India will bring new energy to trade and investment. “India and Austria have been reliable partners in infrastructure, innovation, and sustainability,” Mod said, adding, “Whether it is the Delhi Metro or the Atal Tunnel built at an altitude of ten thousand feet in the Himalayas, Austria’s tunneling expertise has left a strong mark.” “By combining Austria’s expertise with India’s speed and scale, we will ensure reliable technology and supply chains for the entire world. We will also strengthen our partnership in defence, semiconductors, quantum technology, and biotechnology,” the PM said.
