Cyberport joined the competition to develop practical artificial intelligence solutions.

Prudential Hong Kong and Cyberport launched the Cantonese Voice AI Challenge, a competition aimed at developing practical artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for the insurance industry and other sectors.

The initiative was announced at the Insurance Authority’s AI Cohort Symposium and forms part of a memorandum of understanding signed by the two organisations in December 2025.

It also supports the Insurance Authority’s AI Cohort Programme, which seeks to promote AI adoption across Hong Kong’s insurance sector.

The challenge is designed to encourage start-ups, technology firms, academic institutions and individual innovators to develop Cantonese voice AI applications based on real-world insurance use cases.

Organisers said the programme will help benchmark industry capabilities, identify emerging talent and support the wider adoption of AI technologies.

The competition will be conducted in three stages and will conclude with a live final. Entries will be assessed across four areas: automatic speech recognition, large language models, text-to-speech technology and overall end-to-end user experience.

Finalists will be evaluated by a panel comprising representatives from the insurance industry, AI sector and academia.

Winning teams may receive opportunities to develop proof-of-concept projects, participate in industry events and pursue potential business collaborations.
