Veteran actor and director Patrick Tse Yin, whose career spanned more than seven decades, died on Monday at the age of 89.
Tse”s son, Nicholas Tse Ting-fung, confirmed the news in a post on Weibo on Monday afternoon.
“It is with great sadness that I announce that my father, Tse Yin, has left us,” he wrote.
Born in 1936, Tse was one of Hong Kong’s most enduring screen icons in a career that lasted for more than 70 years across film and television. He entered the entertainment industry in 1953 and made his film debut that same year.
Over the course of his career, he appeared in numerous popular film and television productions, including The Legend of the Condor Heroes, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils and Shaolin Soccer.
In recognition of his contributions to the film industry, Tse received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 38th Hong Kong Film Awards in 2019. In 2022, he won the Best Actor award at the 40th Hong Kong Film Awards for his performance in the film Time. At the age of 85, he became the oldest recipient of the Best Actor honor in the history of the awards.
