UAE says it intercepted Iranian missiles, drones amid Gulf tensions

Air defenses in the United Arab Emirates engaged multiple aerial threats Monday, intercepting missiles and drones launched from Iran, officials said.

The UAE Ministry of Defence said its systems actively engaged ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones across the country. Officials added that sounds heard nationwide came from interception activity, not impacts. “Air defenses are currently dealing with missile attacks and incoming drones,” the ministry said, confirming ongoing engagements.

Authorities reported that three missiles were intercepted, while a fourth fell into the sea. The incident unfolded as tensions rose around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.

In Fujairah, a drone strike sparked a fire at an oil facility. Emergency crews contained the blaze quickly. Officials said three Indian nationals suffered moderate injuries and were hospitalized.

Donald Trump said U.S. forces would help guide stranded commercial vessels through the strait. Iranian media later reported warning shots fired near U.S. warships.

The UAE also condemned a drone attack on a tanker near Oman. State oil firm ADNOC said the vessel was not carrying cargo and no injuries were reported.

This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more details emerge.
