Rumors about James potentially joining Dubai gained momentum shortly after reports emerged that his expected move to Barcelona was no longer happening.

The veteran guard quickly responded on X, formerly known as Twitter, after seeing reports about his future.

“Yall make up so much stories it’s hard to keep up. I wake up off a flight and I’m signed lol,” he wrote.

Barcelona move no longer on the table

Earlier, according to BasketNews sources, talks between James and Barcelona have broken down.

The news surprised many around European basketball, as Barcelona had been viewed as the most likely destination for the 35-year-old guard in recent weeks.

Several reports had linked the Catalan club with the EuroLeague star, and many expected negotiations to eventually result in an agreement.

Instead, both sides have moved in different directions, leaving James available as one of the most attractive free agents in Europe.

Mike James continues to produce at elite level

During the 2025-26 EuroLeague season, James averaged 16.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 19.1 PIR across 39 appearances.

His recent body of work highlights just how dominant he has been over the last five seasons.

Between 2021 and 2026, James led the EuroLeague in total points scored. He also ranked first in total assists, total minutes played, and overall PIR during that span.

His achievements include two All-EuroLeague First Team selections, two Second Team honors, and the 2023-24 EuroLeague MVP award.

James has also been one of the league’s most durable players. Over the last five seasons, he appeared in 195 EuroLeague games, averaging 39 appearances per year.

No player logged more court time during that period, as James played more than 1,000 minutes more than the next closest player, Alpha Diallo.
