A regional standoff now threatens energy routes and risks wider confrontation, as conflicting claims about recent attacks raise uncertainty and heighten international concern.
Iran denies any attacks on the United Arab Emirates and warns that a response from Iran would be devastating in the event of aggressive actions by the UAE. In a statement issued on May 5, the Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters, which coordinates Iran’s armed forces, assured that the country’s armed forces did not conduct missile operations or drone strikes against the UAE, and added that “if any actions were taken, we would clearly and decisively announce it”.

In the same statement, it says that Iran regards its role in the region as pivotal, while the UAE states that Iran remains “one of the main American and Zionist bases” in the region. The warning goes: “If any actions are taken from UAE territory against our islands, ports, or coasts, we will respond with a devastating and decisive response”.

According to the UAE Ministry of Defense, on May 4 and 5 the country experienced rocket and drone attacks from Iran. Specifically, on May 4, the oil refining complex in Fujairah caught fire, and although three Indian nationals sustained minor injuries, the overall situation remained under the region’s energy sector control.
The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it preserves the right to respond to Iranian attacks and stressed that the events may prompt consideration of military options by Iran in the future.
In summary, the parties emphasize their readiness for diplomatic dialogue and protecting their interests, and the regional situation remains tense amid the ongoing interactions among the United States, Israel, and Iran.
