Emirates to introduce Dubai travel insurance for international passengers

The airline’s president, Sir Tim Clark, has said that it is working to introduce a “reasonably priced” travel insurance

Emirates is planning to introduce travel insurance for international travellers in a move that’s set to encourage tourists to visit Dubai.

Although the new travel insurance scheme hasn’t yet been officially announced, in an interview with the Financial Times, the president of Emirates Airline Sir Tim Clark said that the airline was working with insurance companies to introduce a new travel insurance product that would ensure “we would get you back irrespective [of whether it’s] on Emirates or not.”

Unlike Etihad, who announced on June 12 it would be introducing complimentary medical travel insurance for visits to the UAE capital between July and December 2026, it’s expected that travellers will be required to pay for Emirates’ Dubai travel insurance. However, in the interview, Sir Tim Clark said that it would be “reasonably priced.”

“I think one of the big concerns is that if they get caught overseas and they can’t get back,” the Emirates president said in the interview, adding that the airline was working with insurance companies to “do the right thing.”

Details on what would be covered, the price, and the validity are yet to be confirmed, but we’ll update you as soon as they are.

What to know about Etihad’s Abu Dhabi travel insurance

From July 2026, visitors flying with Etihad Airways will automatically receive complimentary medical travel insurance for up to 15 days during their stay in the UAE

The initiative, launched by Etihad Airways in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and The National Insurance Company, Daman, will be available from July to December 2026.

The insurance will be automatically included with eligible Etihad tickets, meaning travellers won’t need to fill out any forms or submit a separate application.
