Intel has recently issued a warning to major cloud service providers in China that, due to a surge in demand for AI infrastructure and slower-than-expected yield ramp-up for its 18A process, server CPU supply will face severe shortages over the next two quarters (Q2 and Q3). Delivery lead times for some models could extend up to six months.
Although Intel expects supply to gradually stabilize by the end of the year, the shortage may persist longer. Some companies have already shifted to competing products from AMD or adjusted the pace of their data center expansion. Industry analysts predict that capacity bottlenecks could last until early 2027. [IThome, in Chinese]
