Admission to MS-PhD Program in Biotechnology 2026

THE PROGRAMME

  • The MS-PhD Program at the Regional Center for Biotechnology focuses on research-based learning and is open to graduates from Science, Engineering, or Medicine.
  • In the first year, students gain a strong foundation in life sciences and biotechnology through classroom instruction and hands-on lab training.
  • In the second year, students work in a research lab under a guide and submit a Master’s dissertation by the end of the 4th semester.
  • Based on performance, students can continue toward a PhD or exit with a Master’s degree, with the program offering interdisciplinary training and a strong emphasis on laboratory research.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Indian Students:

  • Candidates with 60% marks in a Bachelor’s degree (Science, Engineering, or Medicine) are eligible; SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwD candidates get a 5% relaxation.
  • Final-year students can also apply, provided they submit proof of required marks at the time of admission to the MS-PhD Program.
  • Applicants must qualify for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Biotechnology (GAT-B), followed by an interview to assess research aptitude.
  • Up to 20 students will be admitted, with reservations in accordance with government norms.

Foreign Students:

  • Candidates with 60% marks in a Bachelor’s degree (Science, Engineering, or Medicine) are eligible; final-year students can also apply.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for an online interview.
  • Up to 5 students will be admitted, subject to visa and medical insurance requirements.

FELLOWSHIPS

Students admitted to the MS-PhD Program will receive:

  • Rs. 16,000 per month (first 2 years)
  • Later, Indian students must qualify for CSIR, ICMR, and DBT fellowships
  • Foreign students may receive Rs. 37,000 (JRF) and Rs. 42,000 (SRF)

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

5 years to a maximum of 7 years

HOSTEL FACILITIES

On-campus shared boarding and lodging available

FEES

  • Academic Fee: Rs. 5000
  • Tuition Fee: Rs. 6000 (Semester I–III)
  • Laboratory Fee: Rs. 6000
  • Medical Fee: Rs. 3000
  • Hostel Fee: Rs. 1200

Additional charges include caution deposit, thesis fee, electricity, and mess charges.
