RIYADH — The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) identified 17 pharmaceutical establishments in violation of regulations related to medicine availability and reporting, imposing fines totaling SR1.575 million.

The violations were recorded during May, June and July 2026.

According to the SFDA’s establishment compliance report, eight establishments failed to comply with requirements for directly reporting drug movements through the electronic Pharmaceutical Products Tracking System, “RSD.”

The RSD system tracks and traces pharmaceutical products for human use from the manufacturer until they reach the consumer, using technological tools to help ensure medicine availability and safety and combat commercial fraud.

Four establishments failed to ensure the availability of their registered pharmaceutical products, resulting in shortages or depletion of stock.

Another four establishments failed to report an anticipated shortage or interruption in drug supplies at least six months before the expected supply disruption or stock availability was affected.

One establishment failed to maintain sufficient stock of all its registered pharmaceutical products for six months and did not replenish shortages within the specified period of up to three months.

Under the Pharmaceutical and Herbal Establishments and Products Law, penalties for violations can reach SR5 million, in addition to the temporary closure of a pharmaceutical establishment for up to 180 days and/or cancellation of its license.
