Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has completed drug testing for all Malaysia Airlines pilots. The testing was completed by the August 15 deadline, with all active pilots tested and all results returning negative.
As the next phase, the company began testing approximately 2,840 Malaysia Airlines cabin crew members on August 18, with completion targeted by September 3.
Testing of pilots and cabin crew is also underway at group company Firefly. As of August 15, more than half of its 158 pilots and 163 cabin crew members had completed testing, with all results to date negative. The company expects to complete testing for all personnel by August 25, ahead of the September 5 deadline set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
“The completion of this first phase is an important milestone in the measures we committed to implement, but the work does not end here. We are expanding testing to other job categories to ensure that the same rigorous standards are applied consistently across all airlines in the group,” said MAG Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Izham Ismail.
The company will continue conducting unannounced tests led by its Safety and Health team, while also working with the authorities. These measures will supplement its existing fitness-for-duty framework, including pre-employment testing, aviation medical certificates, recurrent training, regular alcohol and drug testing, pre-flight fitness checks, and crew fitness assessments.
