From August 5 to 13, 2026, Chongqing hosted an international volunteer program on cultural heritage preservation for young people from China and Canada, as well as a Sino-Canadian youth arts exchange camp. A group of Chinese and Canadian youth participated in the events, according to ECNS.
According to the publication, the program was designed to engage Chinese and international youth in cultural heritage preservation and familiarize them with China’s approaches to heritage conservation. Participants visited the Sichuan Opera Theater in Chongqing, the Dazhu Rock Carvings, and other cultural sites.
During the trip, the young people tried on costumes and applied makeup for Sichuan opera, studied the performers’ movements, explored the sites, and made sketches. They also visited Elin Park, Mountain City Alley, and the Tongyuanmen City Wall Cultural Heritage Park.

Participant Eva Wang told China News Service that she made sketches in Mountain City Alley and wants to bring her artwork back to Canada. Another participant, Linya Feng, stated her intention to make the Dazhu rock carvings the subject of a long-term research project.
Upon completion of the program, the participants’ thematic works and “heritage guardians’ diaries” are to be exhibited in Ottawa. The event was supported by the Chongqing “Luhai” International Communications Foundation, the Dazhu Rock Carvings Research Institute, the Sichuan Institute of Fine Arts, and other organizations.
