Government said that its energy investment mission to China had helped build a strong pipeline of potential investment into the country’s energy infrastructure.

The Department of Electricity and Energy said that the mission secured advanced interest from six major energy equipment manufacturers, while also making progress on several long-standing energy projects.

Among the key developments was Sasol’s appointment of China-based Envision to design a green hydrogen system for its Sasolburg operations.

South Africa and China also agreed to co-operate on advanced nuclear waste disposal technologies.

Department Spokesperson Tsakane Khambane said that the next phase would involve finalising commitments and accelerating high-impact energy and infrastructure projects.

“By bridging the gap between policy and implementation, the delegation has established a clear roadmap for the next phase of development,” Khambane said.

She added that Team South Africa was now prepared to consolidate final commitments, translate technical insights into project pipelines, and accelerate the execution of high-impact energy and infrastructure projects.
