Dubai Police shut down 103 fraudulent social media accounts during the second quarter of the year as authorities intensified efforts to combat online scams and protect the public from increasingly sophisticated cyber fraud.

The figures were presented during a performance review meeting of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, chaired by Major General Hareb Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs.

The meeting assessed crime indicators and the department’s operational performance during the second quarter, including reports of fraud and cybercrime.

Al Shamsi stressed the importance of cooperation among law enforcement agencies, government institutions and the public in addressing emerging forms of crime, particularly online fraud.

He urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid sharing personal or banking information with untrusted individuals or entities, and immediately report suspicious activities or attempted scams.

Authorities also reviewed reports received by the Anti-Fraud Centre and analysed the methods and patterns used by cybercriminals.

Specialist investigation teams presented the results of field operations aimed at preventing fraud, strengthening operational readiness and improving proactive policing measures.

Dubai Police said crime statistics for the first half of the year showed a noticeable decline in several criminal indicators, which it attributed to ongoing crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.

Police said they would continue strengthening early detection and response capabilities to address evolving cybercrime threats and protect the public from online fraud.
