China Updates SRRC Radio Transmitting Equipment Management Rules

6. August 2026

China has updated its SRRC certification regulatory framework by incorporating revised marking requirements for radio transmitting equipment into the national management regulations. The latest amendments issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) align the existing regulatory framework with the revised SRRC certificate and CMIIT ID coding rules introduced in 2023, providing greater clarity for manufacturers seeking access to the Chinese market.

The revised regulations, released under MIIT Order No. 57 on February 27, 2026, primarily integrate the marking requirements established in MIIT Notification No. 47 of 2023 into the Regulations on the Management of Radio Transmitting Equipment. While most provisions remain unchanged, manufacturers should pay particular attention to the updated requirements concerning product marking, certificate validity, renewal procedures, and certificate modifications. Radio transmitting equipment usually requires SRRC certification in order to be approved for import and sale in China.

Updated Marking Requirements Incorporated into the Regulations

A key change is the formal inclusion of the type approval code marking requirements within the regulation. Under the updated Article 15, the type approval code must be marked directly on radio transmitting equipment or displayed electronically where applicable.

If the equipment is too small or technical limitations make direct marking impractical, the type approval code may instead be displayed on the product’s individual outer packaging or included in the user manual. The national radio regulatory authority continues to establish the coding rules for type approval codes, while applicants are permitted to generate the codes independently in accordance with those rules.

The regulation also reiterates that radio transmitting equipment must not be sold or used within China before obtaining the required type approval.

Certificate Validity, Renewal and Changes

Although no major revisions were introduced to other sections of the regulation, several existing provisions remain particularly important for certificate holders.

Article 9 confirms that SRRC type approval certificates generally remain valid for a period of two to five years, unless a different validity period is required because of radio frequency planning or spectrum licensing adjustments.

Article 12 specifies that applications for certificate renewal must be submitted at least 30 days before the certificate expires. If an extension is approved, the original certificate is replaced with a newly issued certificate while the existing type approval code remains unchanged. Each renewal may extend the certificate for a period of up to five years. If the renewal request is rejected, the authority must provide the applicant with written reasons for its decision.

Article 13 continues to require manufacturers or certificate holders to submit formal applications when changes to an existing type approval certificate are necessary. The national radio regulatory authority will process such changes in accordance with the applicable regulations.

For manufacturers, importers and exporters of radio transmitting equipment, the updated regulation reinforces the importance of complying with China’s SRRC certification requirements and ensuring that product marking, certificate management and approval procedures remain consistent with the latest MIIT regulatory framework. Additional regulatory information may be available through certification and compliance news resources.
