Chandigarh: Punjab Police’s anti-gangster task force (AGTF), in coordination with the state’s overseas fugitive tracking and extradition cell (OFTEC) and central agencies, has secured the deportation of fugitive gangster Jobanjit Singh alias Joban Billa from Jakarta, Indonesia, and brought him back to Punjab. The accused, who was evading arrest while operating from multiple countries, is wanted in several heinous cases. He is facing four cases of murder, besides offences under the NDPS Act, the Arms Act, and attempt to murder.Billa was detained in Indonesia on July 20, and subsequently deported to India. “The operation marks the successful culmination of Operation Nomad Hunt, a six-month intelligence-led international manhunt involving sustained surveillance, strategic intelligence gathering, and close coordination with national and international agencies,” said DGP Gaurav Yadav. He said Billa is wanted in multiple heinous criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder and offences under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act.Billa fled abroad on Jan 9, 2025, using a passport prepared on the fake particulars of a Gorakhpur resident. The passport was issued from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on March 8, 2024. DGP Yadav said Billa was evading arrest while operating across multiple countries. He was earlier hiding in the UAE, from where he travelled to Georgia and then to Indonesia.“Punjab Police issued a red corner notice against Billa, and inputs regarding his fake passport and whereabouts were shared with central agencies at different intervals. In addition, five Interpol references were also issued,” he said, adding that sustained and persistent efforts led to the accused’s detention in Indonesia.ADGP Promod Ban said Billa was wanted in four cases registered in Punjab, including the murder of Jarnail Singh in Sathiala village, Amritsar, in May 2023; the murder of Deepu Ajnala in Jan 2024; the murder of 12-year-old Gursewak Singh in March 2025; and the murder of Vicky Chugh in March 2025.
