Indian government prepares to meet Gen Z leaders after Delhi protests | Ukraine news

A tense weekend meeting could decide whether India’s education minister resigns. Gen Z protesters have escalated pressure over exam leaks and systemic failures.

The Government of India is preparing for a new round of negotiations with leaders of the Gen-Z movement, which this week caused numerous disruptions in the capital and put on the agenda the demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Demonstrators emphasize accountability of the authorities for test leaks and systemic flaws in education.

Context and Scope of the Protests

These protests are regarded as the most serious youth-led tension against Prime Minister Narendra Modi since he took office in 2014. They reflect discontent over unemployment, corruption, and government accountability, and have led to interruptions in the monsoon session of Parliament that began this week.

According to the movement, the government meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday, but movement representatives warn of possible spread of protests if Pradhan does not resign.

Friday discussions between movement representatives, including Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, and federal ministers J. P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh were aimed at finding a way out of the crisis that publicly fuels tension between the government and opposition forces.

It is noted that just hours before the negotiations, activist Sonam Wangchuk ended a 26-day hunger strike, creating hopes for a breakthrough in dialogue between the sides.

The government continued mobile internet shutdown in the area for the fifth consecutive day, confirmed by two sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The protests persisted under the pressure of prolonged restrictions on network access, but the movement remains determined not to yield to pressure.

“Thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) gathered again in central Delhi, despite the closure of the fourth day and 18 metro stations, as authorities try to limit access to the protest site,” the participants said.

“They can turn off the Internet, the metro, and buses, but to what end? Nothing. People who want to join the protest will still come,” said Rahul Raj, a 34-year-old rally participant.

The protests also touched on questions of government authority and accountability for the systemic shortcomings revealed by the test leaks and problems with access to education. The anticipated new round of negotiations will be a decisive step in resolving the crisis and determining the next course of action for both the government and the protesters.

As the sides prepare for dialogue, the movement continues to demand the resignation of the education minister and broad reforms in the entrance examination system, pointing to deep tensions in education policy and public trust in government mechanisms. Going forward, the prospects for negotiations and the public reaction will be key factors shaping India’s political dynamics.

We have been scheduled for a time slot from 3:30 to 4:00 PM today.

We need to understand the future of Dharmendra Pradhan. Will the government fire him or not? We want a yes-or-no answer.
