During international conferences in Geneva.. UAE chairs working group to develop food safety standards

Geneva, Switzerland – The UAE has strengthened its influential role in developing international food standards. Through its participation in the work of the ninetieth session of the Executive Committee of the Codex Alimentarius Commission “CCEXEC90”. The forty-ninth session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission “CAC49”, which was held in Geneva.

The UAE emerged during the meetings by being chosen to co-chair the electronic working group concerned with developing the guidelines. To assess food risks and new production systems. Along with the European Union. In a move that embodies the growing international confidence in the UAE’s role as an active partner in developing international food safety standards. It reflects the country’s pioneering position in international forums.

The UAE’s participation also witnessed an active presence in a number of accompanying technical and strategic meetings and events. Among them was the WHO panel discussion on the global burden of foodborne illness in 2026. In addition to participating, at the invitation of the World Health Organization, in the strategic discussion on alternative proteins. Which brought together an elite group of international officials and experts to discuss future directions for food innovations. The role of alternative proteins in supporting the sustainability of food systems and enhancing global food security.

As part of the UAE’s keenness to keep pace with emerging global trends and future technologies, the Emirati delegation also participated in the “AI for Good Global Summit 2026”. Which is one of the most prominent international forums concerned with harnessing artificial intelligence technologies to serve sustainable development.

Tours and participations

During the participation, the delegation was briefed on the latest innovations, technical applications and future solutions in a number of vital sectors. Including food, agriculture and sustainability, he looked forward to opportunities to employ modern technologies to support food and regulatory systems in the future.

On the sidelines of the meetings, the delegation, headed by Moza Suhail Al Muhairi, met with Jamal Al Mashrakh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva. Where the latest developments in the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission were reviewed. He discussed ways to enhance coordination and integration between national authorities and the permanent mission. To support the UAE’s active presence in relevant international organizations and forums.

This participation reflects the advanced position that the UAE has come to occupy in international forums concerned with food. And its growing role in supporting the development of global standards that keep pace with innovation. It enhances the sustainability of food systems and consumer protection. In line with the country’s vision to build a safer, more sustainable food system that is ready for the future.
