Something for the weekend: If you have ever fancied working somewhere other than the same boring office, or potentially extending a break in another country by working from there afterwards, then look no further!
Bangkok in Thailand has been named the world’s best workcation city for 2026 due to its strength as an affordable, well-connected global city with the energy and appeal of a major travel hub.
For its annual Work from anywhere index, flexible workspace provider IWG ranked cities against criteria designed to assess how well they support remote working while travelling, including climate, broadband speed, accommodation, transport, food, culture and flexible workspace availability.
In previous years, the index was topped by Barcelona, Budapest and Tokyo, with all three also making the list this year.

IWG also published research alongside the list, which found that 51% of workers said their employer already offers a work-from-anywhere policy. Overall, 90% said this has improved their work-life balance, and 80% felt it has improved productivity. Four-fifths (80%) said it would make a new role more attractive and 62% said they would consider changing jobs for a better policy.
Access to flexible workspace at the destination was cited by 38% as a key factor when choosing where to work remotely while travelling, while 43% worked remotely from a holiday destination without using annual leave. Almost half (48%) plan to extend a holiday or mini-break by working remotely in 2026, and 46% said they are more likely to do so than they were last year.
Avoiding burnout and supporting wellbeing is the biggest reason to extend trips through remote working, cited by 54%, followed by making annual leave go further (52%).
Mark Dixon, executive chairman and founder of IWG, said: “Thanks to hybrid working and cloud technology, employees now have the freedom to work wherever and whenever suits them best. This trend is here to stay, with many organisations adopting flexible-working policies, particularly over the summer months for the long-term, which not only improves work-life balance and reduces burnout but also delivers significant productivity gains.”
