Opinion | Trump extends Hong Kong an olive branch after police raid bookstores

The Trump administration has partially eased sanctions on Hong Kong that were imposed six years ago during the city’s harsh crackdown on personal freedoms and dissent. It’s an odd time to reward the city, just days after its police raided two independent bookstores and arrested five booksellers for selling supposedly “seditious” publications.
