Geely integrates 16 components into new electric drive system

The system is designed to reduce packaging requirements and minimise energy losses while weighing 75 kilograms. Geely states that the drive unit achieves an overall efficiency of 93.8 per cent under the Chinese CLTC cycle.

The new system will debut in the Geely TT saloon. During an efficiency drive around Qinghai Lake, the vehicle recorded an energy consumption of 8.2 kWh/100 km, according to the manufacturer. Geely says this earned the model a Guinness World Record for the lowest energy consumption by a production battery-electric saloon on that route.

In addition to efficiency improvements, Geely is also emphasising the system’s performance potential. In a dual-motor configuration, the drive system delivers up to 425 kW and is said to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

A cooling system with 54 cooling channels, combined with active lubrication of the shaft and transmission components, is designed to maintain consistent power output under high loads. According to Geely, the drive unit has been engineered for a service life of five million kilometres.

The Geely TT also claimed a second Guinness World Record, completing a synchronised drift by two vehicles over a distance of more than 46 kilometres on a wet surface.

With the new system, Geely is following the wider industry trend towards highly integrated electric drive units. By combining functions that were previously handled by separate components, manufacturers aim to reduce weight, save installation space and simplify production processes while increasing overall efficiency.

The unveiling of the new drive system comes as Geely expands its presence in Europe. The manufacturer recently launched its core brand in Germany, introducing the battery-electric Geely E5 SUV and the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid as its first models. At the same time, the company is growing its sales and service network.

Geely expects the new electric drive system to improve the efficiency of future vehicle generations and strengthen the brand’s competitiveness in the European market.
