KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): AirAsia X Bhd (KL:AAX) is now known as AirAsia Group Bhd.

The new name, effective July 9, reflects the aviation group’s full acquisition and consolidation of AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia Aviation Group Limited from Capital A Bhd (KL:CAPITALA) on Jan 18.

This rebranding comes following the company’s 19th annual general meeting held on June 25, and registration for the new name on July 2 with the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

AirAsia chairman Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim said in a statement that “with a larger fleet, broader route network and stronger connectivity, we are poised to unlock new growth opportunities and create greater value for our shareholders, stakeholders and guests”.

He added that this marks the airline’s next milestone in its wider goal to be the world’s first low-cost network carrier, leveraging the synergies and potential of its short and medium-haul network, and bringing together the group’s airlines to enhance connectivity and seamless travel.

As of Thursday, AirAsia Group’s shares fell 0.1 sen to RM1.13, giving it a market capitalisation of RM3.79 billion. The stock has fallen 35% year to date.
