Emirates is expanding the Dubai Colombo route with more Premium Economy seats by introducing a second daily Airbus A350 service from 8 August 2026, replacing the Boeing 777 currently operating flight EK648/649. The aircraft upgrade will increase the number of daily flights featuring Emirates’ enhanced Premium Economy cabin, giving travellers between the UAE and Sri Lanka greater access to a more comfortable and modern flying experience. The airline currently operates four daily services between Dubai International Airport and Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo using a mix of Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft, and the latest move highlights Emirates’ continued focus on strengthening connectivity, upgrading passenger comfort and expanding next-generation aircraft operations across its global network.

Emirates is strengthening its vital air link between the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka by introducing a second daily Airbus A350 service on the popular Dubai–Colombo route from 8 August 2026. The aircraft upgrade will replace the Boeing 777 currently operating flight EK648/649, bringing more next-generation aircraft capacity and expanding access to Emirates’ Premium Economy experience for passengers travelling between the two destinations.

The latest move marks another important step in Emirates’ ongoing fleet modernisation strategy as the airline continues introducing its advanced Airbus A350 aircraft across selected international routes. For travellers flying between Dubai International Airport and Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, the change means a larger share of daily services will feature the airline’s newest cabin products and enhanced passenger comfort.

The Dubai–Colombo route remains one of Emirates’ important connections in South Asia, serving thousands of passengers travelling for business, tourism, family visits and onward international connections. With the introduction of an additional A350-operated flight, Emirates is responding to the continued importance of the route while improving the overall travel experience for passengers.

Emirates Adds More Airbus A350 Capacity on High-Demand Colombo Route

From 8 August 2026, Emirates will operate a second daily Airbus A350 service between Dubai and Colombo. The new A350 operation will replace the Boeing 777 aircraft currently assigned to flight EK648/649.

Before this change, Emirates operated a combination of Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft on the route. The introduction of another A350 service will increase the number of daily flights offering Emirates’ Premium Economy cabin on the Colombo route.

The airline currently operates four daily flights between Dubai International Airport and Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. These services provide important connectivity between Sri Lanka and Dubai, which acts as a major international aviation hub connecting passengers to destinations across multiple continents.

The aircraft transition reflects Emirates’ focus on matching modern aircraft with strategically important routes. By deploying the A350 on additional services, the airline is increasing the availability of its latest onboard experience while maintaining strong capacity between the two cities.

Airbus A350 Brings a New Era of Comfort for Colombo Travellers

The Airbus A350 has become one of the key aircraft types in Emirates’ future fleet plans. Designed with advanced technology and passenger comfort in mind, the aircraft offers a modern flying environment with improved cabin features.

For passengers travelling on the Dubai–Colombo route, the biggest benefit will be increased access to Emirates’ Premium Economy cabin. The cabin provides an upgraded travel option between Economy and Business Class, offering passengers a more comfortable journey.

Premium Economy has become an increasingly popular choice among travellers who want additional comfort without choosing a higher-priced premium cabin. With more A350 flights operating on the route, more passengers will have the opportunity to experience this enhanced travel option.

The aircraft also supports Emirates’ wider efforts to introduce newer-generation planes that deliver a more refined passenger experience. Modern aircraft such as the A350 are designed to improve efficiency while offering travellers a quieter and more comfortable cabin environment.

Dubai Colombo Air Link Strengthens Tourism and Business Travel

The Dubai–Colombo connection plays an important role in supporting travel between the UAE and Sri Lanka. Dubai serves as a major global transit hub, allowing passengers from Sri Lanka to connect easily with destinations throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and beyond.

For Sri Lankan travellers, Emirates’ extensive international network provides access to a wide range of global destinations through Dubai. For international visitors, the route offers a convenient gateway to Sri Lanka’s tourism attractions, including beaches, cultural landmarks, heritage sites and natural landscapes.

The additional A350 service is expected to support travellers looking for greater flexibility when planning journeys between the two countries. More flights equipped with modern cabins can also strengthen the appeal of the route among passengers seeking improved comfort during long-distance travel.

Business travellers may also benefit from the enhanced aircraft deployment, particularly those requiring frequent connections between Sri Lanka and international markets. Improved aircraft quality and increased Premium Economy availability can create a more attractive option for corporate passengers.

Emirates Continues Expanding Next-Generation Aircraft Operations

The move to introduce another Airbus A350 service on the Colombo route reflects Emirates’ broader transformation programme. The airline has been expanding the use of new-generation aircraft as part of its long-term fleet development plans.

The Airbus A350 represents a major addition to Emirates’ aircraft portfolio, complementing its existing fleet of wide-body aircraft. The aircraft allows the airline to introduce updated cabin designs and modern passenger experiences across its global network.

As airlines worldwide continue upgrading their fleets, aircraft selection has become an important factor influencing passenger choices. Travellers increasingly consider cabin comfort, onboard facilities and aircraft type when selecting flights.

By increasing A350 operations to Colombo, Emirates is positioning the route among its growing network of destinations receiving upgraded aircraft services.

Colombo Gains Stronger Position Within Emirates’ South Asian Network

Sri Lanka remains a significant market within Emirates’ South Asian operations. Colombo’s role as the country’s main international gateway makes the airport a crucial connection point for travellers arriving from and departing to global destinations.

The addition of another A350 flight highlights the continued importance of Colombo within Emirates’ network planning. The airline’s decision to introduce more modern aircraft demonstrates confidence in the long-term demand for travel between Dubai and Sri Lanka.

The route serves a wide range of passengers, including tourists exploring Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan communities living overseas, international business travellers and passengers connecting through Dubai.

With four daily flights already operating between Dubai and Colombo, Emirates provides one of the strongest international links between the UAE and Sri Lanka. The additional Airbus A350 service further enhances the route’s appeal by combining connectivity with a more advanced travel experience.

Emirates Delivers More Premium Travel Options Between Dubai and Colombo

The introduction of a second daily Airbus A350 flight represents a significant upgrade for passengers travelling between Dubai and Colombo. By replacing a Boeing 777 operation with an A350 service, Emirates will increase the availability of its Premium Economy cabin and provide more travellers with access to its latest aircraft technology.

The change reflects Emirates’ continued commitment to improving passenger experience while strengthening one of its important South Asian routes. As international travel demand continues evolving, airlines are increasingly focusing on modern aircraft, better cabins and enhanced services to attract travellers.

Emirates is adding more Premium Economy seats on the Dubai Colombo route by introducing a second daily Airbus A350 service, replacing a Boeing 777 operation from August 2026. The upgrade will deliver more modern aircraft comfort and enhanced travel options for passengers flying between the UAE and Sri Lanka.

From 8 August 2026, passengers flying between Dubai and Colombo will benefit from more opportunities to experience Emirates’ Airbus A350, marking another milestone in the airline’s expansion of next-generation aircraft operations.
