Desk Report:

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to Malaysia and China is an important milestone in Bangladesh’s foreign policy and diplomatic relations, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said. He said that as a result of this visit, Bangladesh’s relations with the two friendly countries have further strengthened and new areas of cooperation have been created based on mutual interest and respect.

The Local Government Minister moved a motion of thanks on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s foreign visit in the session of the National Assembly on Saturday (June 27, 2026). He said these things while delivering his speech. Later, the motion was unanimously adopted by voice vote with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram in the chair.

The minister said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit as the head of the new government after the restoration of democratic continuity has further consolidated Bangladesh’s position in the international arena. At the same time, it has elevated the existing friendly relations with Malaysia and China to a new height.

The minister said that during the visit, 17 important memorandums of understanding were signed, especially with China, which will play an effective role in further expanding the economic and development cooperation between the two countries in the future. He also mentioned that there have been positive discussions between the two countries on increasing investment, expanding trade, developing infrastructure and a sustainable solution to the long-standing Rohingya crisis.

He said that Malaysia and China have assured Bangladesh of their cooperation in a sustainable solution to the long-standing Rohingya crisis, which will further strengthen the government’s diplomatic efforts on this issue.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also said that the Prime Minister has set a new example of restraint, responsibility and people-friendly political practice in running the state by avoiding the conventional culture of public reception before or after foreign visits. He commented that his initiative will be helpful in taking the country’s political culture forward in a more positive and modern direction.
