Desk Report:

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that the people of Bangladesh have given them the responsibility to protect the country’s interests. During his visits to Malaysia and China, he discussed the interests of the country and its people with utmost importance and made every effort to protect those interests.

He made these remarks in his speech as the leader of the parliament after the motion of thanks for the unprecedented success of his visit to Malaysia and China was unanimously adopted on the 16th working day of the second session (budget session) of the 13th National Parliament on Saturday (June 27, 2026).

The Prime Minister said, “We have nothing personal here. If anything good has been achieved in this visit, it is the achievement of Bangladesh. It is the achievement of the people of the country.”

The parliament meeting began at 11 am with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram in the chair. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman successfully completed his first official six-day visit to Malaysia and China from June 21 to 26. On this occasion, the National Assembly congratulated and thanked him.

In response to the vote of thanks, the Prime Minister said, “I sincerely thank all the members for the reason why I have been thanked by the Parliament. From the position of our party, we use a slogan—‘Bangladesh first’.”

She thanked all the members of the Parliament, especially the Leader of the Opposition, and said, “He has also encouraged me to work for the people of the country.”

Earlier, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir moved the vote of thanks for the Prime Minister’s successful state visit in the Parliament. After detailed discussion, the motion was unanimously adopted by voice vote.

In the discussion on the motion, the members of the government and opposition parties termed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to Malaysia and China as a groundbreaking step in Bangladesh’s foreign policy, economic diplomacy and expansion of international cooperation. According to them, this visit has opened new possibilities for trade, investment, infrastructure development, technology cooperation, and strategic partnerships, which will play an important role in the long-term economic development of the country.
