KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen foreign nationals were detained, and goods belonging to 22 unlicensed traders were seized during an integrated enforcement operation around Pudu Market in Jalan Yew here on Tuesday (May 9).

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said that the operation, which began at 6am, was carried out in collaboration with the Immigration Department, targeting the sale of fresh produce, vegetables and fruits by foreign nationals operating without authorisation and in breach of their work permit conditions.

“Enforcement action was taken against 22 unlicensed traders, comprising 13 foreign nationals and nine Malaysians. Their goods were seized and removed for conducting business without a licence and obstructing public spaces.

“We also issued compound notices to owners of unauthorised stalls under the Hawkers Licensing By-Laws (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) 2016 and the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974,” it said in a Facebook post.
