India and Indonesia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a strong focus on defence cooperation, maritime security, trade, investment and emerging technologies, during the 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission Meeting held in New Delhi on Sunday.

The meeting was co-chaired by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono. The two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explored new avenues for cooperation across several strategic sectors.

A major focus of the discussions was enhancing collaboration in defence and security, maritime affairs, connectivity, digital technology, energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, space, education and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides also examined opportunities to expand trade and investment ties and strengthen cooperation in critical sectors such as fintech, fertilisers, tourism and critical minerals.

The ministers exchanged views on key regional and global developments and reiterated their commitment to closer coordination in regional and multilateral forums. They also underscored the importance of strengthening engagement between India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In a social media post earlier in the day, Dr. Jaishankar said the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has witnessed significant growth in recent years, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation across a broad range of sectors.

Welcoming the positive momentum in bilateral relations, both countries agreed to continue high-level engagement and hold the next Joint Commission Meeting at a mutually convenient date in the near future. The discussions are expected to further reinforce the strategic partnership between India and Indonesia, two key Indo-Pacific partners.
