Jane Street, the trading firm that paid staff an average of $2.7m last year, employs more than 600 people across its Asian offices. Soon there will be more; Bloomberg reported today that the firm is doubling its office footprint in Singapore to a capacity of 250 people. What does that mean for Jane Street’s lucrative trading roles?

Jane Street’s Singapore office currently appears to be an engineering hub. There are few traders with public profiles on LinkedIn, and its most senior recent hires are all engineers. David Bridson, for example, joined as an engineer last June from Google Deepmind. Samir Kuthala, a Goldman Sachs executive director, joined this February.
Jane Street’s Singapore job listings are similarly tech focused. There are currently 16 job openings in Singapore, almost entirely in either engineering or cybersecurity, with no available trading roles. This includes two gradate roles in software and linux engineering. In Hong Kong, by contrast, there are 17 openings in its trading, research and machine learning division, eight of which are graduate or internship roles.
Although working in tech at Jane Street pays very well, that $2.7m average appears to skew heavily to trading roles. Levels.fyi data suggests that Jane Street software engineers were paid an average of $386.6k in 2025.
Bloomberg reported that the new Singapore office will house trading staff, as well as tech and infrastructure specialists. It’s not clear whether it plans to increase its proportion of trading staff in the city, though. Jane Street did not respond to a request for comment.
There have been signs that trading firms prefer Singapore to Hong Kong for quant roles recently. Last week, hedge fund Citadel told a group of quants in its global quantitative strategies group that they must relocate or quit; some went to Miami while others went to Singapore.
