Thailand will face Kuwait in a friendly match at BG Stadium on Friday.

The game — the first of two friendlies during the Fifa international window — is part of the War Elephants’ preparation for the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

“The game with Kuwait will be a good preparation for the Thai national team ahead of the Asian Cup. In this tournament, we are in a tough group and one of the three teams is Qatar and they have a style of play similar to Kuwait,” said head coach Anthony Hudson during a pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“Although Kuwait have a lower Fifa ranking than Thailand, we cannot underestimate them at all. They have good tactics and good football skills. So the tactics for our team are very important,” added the English coach.

“We hope the team will get a good result from this first warm-up match. We are looking forward to the game, and hope the Thai football fans will come and cheer our team at the stadium.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Weerathep Pomphan is relishing his opportunity after receiving a call-up from Hudson.

“I am very happy to be back with the national team again. I have been working with coach Hudson for the past 4-5 days and every training session has been intense. I had a long break, but now physically I’m ready for both games,” said the 29-year-old.

“The coach has shown us new tactics, and I hope to contribute as much as possible. In the game against Kuwait, we learned about their playing style; their league just finished, and there are many factors related to their travel. We know their tactics and how they play, and the coach has prepared our tactics accordingly.

“We’ve also faced China before, and we’ll try to beat them because in our last two encounters, we didn’t win.”

Thailand will travel to China for a second warm-up match next Tuesday at Jinhua Sports Center Stadium.

Thailand’s U19 side will face Singapore in the second game of the Asean Boys’ Championship Group B today at Teladan Stadium in Medan, Indonesia.

Thailand’s U19 side overwhelmed Brunei 9-0 on Tuesday.

The match kicks off at 8pm and will be shown live on BG Sports YouTube channel.
