In May, the century-old Luhe High School in Beijing’s Tongzhou district hosted a standout event of the 7th Talent Show of Young Ambassadors for International People-to-People Exchange, featuring demonstrations of artificial intelligence and quadruped robots.

As the fourth stop on this multicity tour, the Beijing event brought together teachers and students from more than 20 countries and regions across five continents. This year also marked the largest and most sustained participation by student groups from Hong Kong and Macao in the program’s history.

According to organizers, students from Hong Kong and Macao took part across four consecutive stops — Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, Wuhan in Hubei province, Guangzhou in Guangdong province, and Beijing — with additional participation expected at the final Chongqing leg. The route created a continuous platform for innovation and exchange spanning eastern, central, southern, northern and southwestern China.

The program combines route planning, school partnerships, customized innovation challenges and cultural activities to strengthen scientific and cultural exchanges among students from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao.

Activities included quadruped robot obstacle navigation, coding workshops, and collaborative innovation tasks, where students worked side by side to solve technical problems and explore applications of artificial intelligence.

At earlier stops, additional schools from Hong Kong participated in robot competitions and demonstrations, showcasing a sustained engagement throughout the tour.

Beyond competition, the program emphasized cultural exchange. Students visited major cultural landmarks in Beijing, gaining deeper insight into Chinese history and heritage alongside their technological learning.

Organizers said Hong Kong’s growing involvement reflects the city’s broader innovation strategy, which places artificial intelligence at the center of future development through initiatives such as increased support for AI research and supercomputing infrastructure.

During the robot demonstrations, students described moments of teamwork, excitement, and discovery as they guided quadruped robots through obstacle courses. Despite technical challenges, the focus remained on collaboration, communication, and shared learning across regions.
