CelcomDigi announced it has expanded its 5G indoor coverage at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur as part of a wider rollout of in-building 5G services across high-traffic locations in Malaysia. The deployment was carried out by national 5G infrastructure provider Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), which recently activated in-building solutions (IBS) at the mall to improve indoor network connectivity.

CelcomDigi Gains 5G IBS Service In Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

CelcomDigi, alongside Maxis and Yes, has officially gained access to improved 5G services within Bukit Bintang’s largest mall – also one of the busiest malls in the country – courtesy of DNB’s activation. It’s worth noting that U Mobile, as a secondary 5G infrastructure provider, has recently enabled its own 5G IBS coverage here, along with various other locations managed by the Pavilion’s parent company.

In simple terms, CelcomDigi subscribers can expect faster speeds, more reliability, and better performance overall when connecting via 5G within the premises of this mall. The indoor 5G connectivity is not just important to shoppers either, as things like eWallet payments to require good internet coverage to work, and future plans – especially pertaining to AI and IoT-related technologies – will require strong 5G backbone to work as designed.

According to DNB, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is the latest addition to a growing list of locations equipped with IBS infrastructure. Existing sites include KLIA, KLIA2, Senai International Airport, Penang International Airport, Institut Jantung Negara, University Malaya Medical Centre, KL Sentral, KOMTAR, Setia Spice Arena and Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) nationwide.

DNB stated that 72 key sites had already been equipped with IBS prior to the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur deployment, with additional shopping malls planned for future rollout. As of its latest announcement, DNB says outdoor 5G coverage has now reached more than 80% of populated areas in Malaysia, while indoor connectivity is aimed to complement the existing coverage, which is especially important in high-density urban areas.
