Indonesia unemployment is 7.24 million with the rate at 4.68%, and recovery remains limited.

JAKARTA – The number of unemployed people in Indonesia reached 7.24 million as of February 2026, equivalent to an open unemployment rate (TPT) of 4.68%.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that this figure fell by 35,000 people compared with the same period last year, with the TPT also declining by 0.08 percentage points.

Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, said the decrease reflects an improvement in the labour market.

“The labour force not absorbed, or those who are unemployed, amounts to 7.24 million people,” she said at a press conference at the BPS office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/26).

The decline in the TPT occurred among both men and women, as well as in urban and rural areas.

In terms of employment structure, the working-age population reached 219.54 million, up by 2.75 million year-on-year. The labour force stood at 154.91 million, an increase of 1.86 million.

Meanwhile, the number of employed people reached 147.67 million, rising by 1.89 million compared with the previous year. The increase was mainly supported by full-time workers, who totalled 98.59 million, up by 2.10 million, as well as 38.34 million part-time workers.

On the other hand, the number of underemployed people fell to 10.72 million, a decrease of around 0.94 million. This improvement indicates that the quality of labour absorption is beginning to improve, although the decline in unemployment remains limited. (DH/LM)
