The bulk of imports consists of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further worked, twisted

In January–March 2026, the long steel products market in Ukraine saw a significant increase in imports — up 63.9% compared to the same period in 2026, reaching 81,480 metric tons. This is according to calculations by the GMK Center based on data from the State Customs Service.

The bulk of shipments consisted of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further worked, twisted (HS Code 7214) — 26.74 thousand tons, which is 3.2 times more year-on-year. Turkey supplied 20,390 tons of such products to the Ukrainian market, while Egypt supplied 4,990 tons.

Additionally, 24.72 thousand tons of angles, shapes, and special profiles made of non-alloy steel (HS 7216) were imported, which is 8% less year-on-year. Turkey supplied 15,940 metric tons of these products, China supplied 4,880 metric tons, and Poland supplied 2,060 metric tons.

A significant share of imports consists of hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils (HS Code 7213) — 20,470 tons (+4 times year-on-year). China directed nearly the entire volume of its production — 20.33 thousand tons — to the Ukrainian market.

In March 2026, 16.26 thousand tons of long steel products were shipped to the Ukrainian market, which is 35.1% less compared to March 2025 and 33.6% less than the previous month.

Consumption of the main import items during the month was as follows:

  • other carbon steel bars and rods, unworked, twisted (HS Code 7214) – 7,490 tons (+12.5% y/y; +28% m/m).
  • angles, shapes, and special sections of non-alloy steel (HS 7216) – 5.16 thousand tons (-63.1% y/y; -52.4% m/m).
  • other bars and rods, angles, shapes, and special sections of corrosion-resistant steel (HS 7222) – 1.07 thousand tons (+15% y/y; -9.9% m/m).

Expenditures on long product imports over the first three months rose by 40.1% year-on-year, to $81.3 million. In March, the figure fell by 18.4% year-on-year and decreased by 19.9% month-on-month, to $21.5 million.

The bulk of shipments consisted of angles, shapes, and special sections (HS Code 7216) – 108,750 tons, up 41.8% year-on-year.
